7.19 General Faculty Foreign Service

Board of Regents Policy--FAC 6C-5.271.

(1) Full-time General Faculty members who work for a university in foreign countries shall retain all rights and privileges of on-campus General Faculty members, including those of salary increases, promotion, and tenure.

(2) No person of professional rank will be employed by a university for official duties outside the United States in other than full professional status as a member of a General Faculty when such duties are expected to last for a period of twelve or more months. Persons employed for consultation or short-term tasks of less than twelve months duration will work on a special contract basis with no university rank or other connection except as specified in the individual contract.

(3) Research and/or evaluation activities will be an assumed component of every foreign program, whether or not they are the primary interest of the program.

(4) Overseas Teaching Centers

(a) The overseas teaching centers at Florence, Italy and London, England will be considered as State University System Centers and all institutions in the State University System will be encouraged to continue to participate in these programs by assigning General Faculty members to teaching positions in the centers and advising students to enroll in these programs when the educational experience is appropriate.

(b) Those universities paying the salaries of General Faculty members teaching in the Florence and London centers will receive credit hour recognition commensurate with the teaching activities of their respective General Faculty members. For budgetary purposes, all credit hours generated by a General Faculty member in the Florence and London centers will be credited to the university contributing General Faculty member's services, at the appropriate credit level.
