7.31 Department of Public Safety

Florida State maintains its own University-oriented law enforcement agency to provide police services and protection to the University Community. The Department located in Room 031, Westcott Building, is organized into four divisions: Administrative Services, Uniformed Police Operations, Investigations and Public Support Services. Although in appearance the Department is similar to other law enforcement/public safety organizations, its main emphasis is one of crime prevention rather than crime solution. Consequently, the Department believes that a proactive crime prevention approach, emphasizing that cooperative crime prevention efforts between the Department and members of the University community, is the best method for reducing the opportunities for crimes to occur. Members of the Department are available for service to the public 24 hours a day and can be reached by telephone at: Emergency 644-1234, Administration 644-1239.
