A person with a terminal degree from the University shall not be employed on a regular tenure accruing contract unless that person has been away from the campus in other employment for a period of at least five years following the terminal degree. Exceptions to the policy may be approved by the Vice President for Academic Affairs for affirmative action reasons.
Normally, exceptions to this policy will not be granted unless it can be shown that the candidate is a member of an Affirmative Action affected class which is underrepresented in the department seeking the exception. Before pursuing an application from or recruiting a candidate to whom this policy applies, the department must determine that an exception will be made if that candidate is selected. Requests for exceptions are submitted by the Academic Dean through the Dean of the Faculties to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
