7.46 Required Use of Textbook

"Conflict of interest" in the required use of a textbook written by a faculty member requiring the use is interpreted to mean required use in any course taught by the author, or by a relative of the author, or by a team of teachers of which the author is a member. If the author requires students to purchase his or her work for collateral reading in a course, the author should notify the President through the Dean of the Faculties of the required use under the same conditions applying to its use as a required textbook.

The University interprets Section 112.313 of the Florida Statutes to mean that an author, or a relative of the author, or a team of teachers of which the author is a member, requiring the use of his or her textbook who may receive more than $500 in one year must inform the President through the Dean of the Faculties of the use of the required text. The faculty member must certify that the required text is the only text that is uniquely suited for use in the author's class. The number of students expected to enroll in the class for the year should be included.
