(l) Equal opportunity---The State University System will actively promote equal opportunity policies and practices which conform to all laws against discrimination and is committed to non-discrimination with respect to race, creed, color, age, handicap, sex, marital status, national origin and veteran status as protected under the Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act. This commitment applies in all areas with student, faculty, Administrative and Professional staff and University Support Personnel System personnel. It is also relevant to the State University System's choice of contractors, to suppliers of goods and services, and to the use of facilities.
(2) Affirmative action in the of students, faculty, and other personnel---The State University System is committed to the principle of taking the positive steps necessary to achieve the equalization of educational and employment opportunities in public higher education in Florida. Such steps shall be outlined in institutional affirmative action plans and the institution shall issue an annual report on the status of such plans. As part of the State University System affirmative action commitment, the Chancellor will provide leadership and coordination for Equal Opportunity through programs of affirmative and positive action that will facilitate the full utilization of women and minorities throughout the State University System. .i.Vacancies; shall be announced publicly by the Chancellor in the State University System Position Vacancy Listing, SUS/FSU, copies of which are publicly circulated to colleges and universities, and to others upon request. University Support Personnel System vacancies shall be announced in accordance with applicable State University System policies and procedures. Information shall also be maintained on applicants interested in positions within the State University System for reference by the state universities in locating qualified candidates.
(3) Organizations shall be permitted the use of university facilities, support or services only upon their assurance that they do not illegally discriminate in their membership with respect to race, color, creed, age, handicap, sex, marital status, national origin and veteran status.
a. Affirmative Action policy statement
The Florida State University reaffirms its moral and ethical commitment to nondiscrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, physical disability, marital status, or status relative to Vietnam Era Veterans. This policy extends to all Florida State University activities related to the management of its educational, employment, financial, business and other affairs. It affects all employment practices including, but not limited to, recruitment, hiring, transfer, promotion, tenure, training, compensation, benefits, layoff and termination. The Florida State University will continue to take aggressive affirmative action measures to insure the continued entry of qualified ethnic minorities, women and physically disabled as defined by law into the faculty and nonfaculty ranks.
The University has devoted substantial research and planning to develop a comprehensive Affirmative Action Program which supports this commitment and is constant in efforts to implement the same. This program requires the personal dedication of every member of the University community "to make real" the affirmative action objectives described in the original document and subsequent updates. The policy is applied not only to persons within the University, but also to those outside the University in their relationship with it.
Through effective efforts of all, the Affirmative Action Program at The Florida State University will ultimately provide for the inclusion and utilization of ethnic minorities, women and physically disabled in an appropriate manner at all levels of responsibility. b. Procedures for compliance with SUS/FSU policy on Position Vacancy Listing
All vacancies for appointments of an academic year or more at a minimum of 0.5 FTE in the following categories shall be announced: Instructional and Research Faculty, Administrative and Professional staff, and University Support Personnel System positions exempt from the wage and hour law. SUS/FSU policy calls for a minimum four-week listing period for faculty. The position vacancy must be filled in conformity with the rank, salary and qualification requirements announced or the position must be re-announced for two weeks with information about revised salary, rank and qualifications.
