The Vice President for Student Affairs coordinates programs and services which promote the intellectual, social, physical and spiritual growth of students. The Student Affairs Division includes Resident Student Development, The Dean of Students, Student Health Center, Student Counseling Center, Career Center, University Union, Campus Recreation, Minority Student Affairs, Multicultural Student Support Center, Student Government, and Educational Research Center for Child Development.
University Housing provides housing for Approximately 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Housing is also available to married students and their dependants. Housing staff provide developmental programs for residents. Special satellite programs offered in residence halls include Honors, multi-cultural, transfer student, fitness and career information centers.
The Dean of Students coordinates a variety of programs which help students achieve educational and personal development goals. Major programs are the Activities and Organizations Office, COSAR (Coordination Office for Substance Abuse Reduction), Campus Alcohol and Drug Information Center, Disabled Student Services, International Student Program Office, Judicial Affairs, Non-traditional Student Services, Orientation and New Student Programs, Leadership Development Office, Veteran Affairs, and the Withdrawal Office.
The Student Health Center provides routine health, eye and dental care and emergency services to students. In addition, the center disseminates information regarding a variety of individual health concerns by means of clinics, demonstrations and publications.
The Student Counseling Center provides short-term individual and group counseling for University students. Programs include counseling for minorities and women.
The Career Center includes Curricular Career Information Services (CCIS). Cooperative Education, and Career Placement. These services help students identify career interests, set educational and career goals, and find employment after graduation.
The University Union serves as a central gathering place for all members of the campus community. The Union houses a travel center; Union Ticket Office; Banking facility and check-cashing facility; and a variety of restaurants. Student Affairs staff members coordinate a variety of functions including the Student Government-funded Campus Entertainment Office, crafts center and game room. Campus Recreation supervises many of the recreational facilities available to members of the university community. The department also coordinates a number of recreational programs (e.g. intramurals, outdoor pursuits).
Minority Student Affairs represents the interests of minority students on campus and administers several scholarship and loan funds.
The Multicultural Student Support Center administers Horizons Unlimited and Support Services, programs for culturally disadvantaged students.
Student Government; is comprised of elected and appointed representatives of the student body. Activity and Services (A&S) fees fund twelve agencies and 250 registered student organizations. Faculty are encouraged to assist groups by serving as faculty advisors and by participating in organizations' activities.
The Educational Research Center for Child Development; provides care and educational experiences for children from three to kindergarten age. The center is used periodically as a research laboratory. Enrollment is limited, with priority given to children of full-time University students.
